[post_content] => Our group has arrived safe and sound. Today we moved to the majestic Laguna de Apoyo where we are focused on building a solid group container and challenging our notions of travel, development, and service, as well as making friends, and setting a tone of inclusion, curiosity, and support for this journey.
Looking forward to many adventures to come!

Arrived and Engaged!

Our group has arrived safe and sound. Even though your departure date is still weeks away, your journey has already begun. It began when you decided that you would step out of your familiar surroundings and immerse yourself in a different language, a different culture – in many ways, a different world. This period of time leading up to your departure is an important part of the journey. It should be filled with energy and excitement and preparation: not just buying gear or practicing your language skills (which are important), but also preparing mentally and physically to challenge yourself and step outside of your comfort zone on a daily basis.
The Field Notes message board is an essential tool to use before, during, and after your trip. We encourage you to use this forum to voice your ideas, anxieties, thoughts, and questions. It’s a great way to begin processing expectations and goals, as well as try your hand at sharing your experience through writing and photos. After the trip, the Field Notes will serve as a scrapbook to look back on your myriad experiences, as well as an ongoing connection point for the group.
As your Program Director at Dragons, I’m going to be working closely with your group to support the program and the instructors and be a contact for those at home while the group is out in the field. Dragons stands out from other travel-study programs because of the tremendous care and intention that go into the conception of each course. Our administration and field staff directly spearhead the development of our course curricula and itineraries. Rather than outsourcing this work to large-scale operators who present you a pre-packaged program – one that can be mindlessly facilitated by just about any guide – Dragons sculpts each course to uniquely represent your school’s vision and infuse it with our values of profound cross-cultural learning and self-cultivation. You should know that you are about to embark on an adventure that is intensely personalized and has been months and even years in the making.
We hope that you will take full advantage of the Field Notes forum and learn to love it! It’s a powerful tool for pre-course communication and community building, and once you head into the field, it will undoubtedly become the default homepage of your parents and friends at home – all of those who WISH they could be out there with you!
Again, welcome to Dragons. I look forward to hearing from you all and vicariously journeying alongside you.
