    [post_content] => Family and friends of Cambodia students,

So after 48 hours, we can finally announce that all students are either back home or in transit. We want to thank you again for your patience and collaboration throughout this trying travel period. In spite of the hours of bated breath on this side of the Pacific, I suppose for the students it was just the last in a series of unforgettable adventures.

I hope this finds you all well and gearing up for a weekend with the family--catching up on tales from Cambodia and hearing all the questions and ideas that have sprung forth in your kid's minds over the last month. We hope you have a wonderful last few weeks of your summer and we look forward to reading your feedback in the days/weeks to come.

Until the next time we communicate, we wish you all the best~

    [post_content] => Friends and Family of Cambodia students,

After holding our collective breath for 6, 12, 24 hours...the students are finally on their way back!

After yet another delay, Cathay Pacific flight #880 took off from HK at 1:20am local time. All the students made the flight safely. Despite the delayed take-off, the flight is now scheduled to land at 9:35pm PST. Please refer to the following website for the most up-to-date flight information: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/CPA880

It will take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours for students to clear customs and immigration in LAX. Rebecca Burns nee Thom will be waiting for them at the International Arrivals gate when they land. She will take them to the Custom Hotel, where she and all the students have rooms reserved for the night. The hotel is located within one mile of LAX and has a shuttle service that will bring the students to and from the hotel to the airport.

Rebecca will accompany the all students to the airport the following morning (7/31) and make sure they clear security safely. We'll send you another update when students arrive in LA tonight and when they clear security tomorrow.

Please contact us at 303.921.6078 or email update@wheretherebedragons.com with any questions or concerns. Tim Hare, our Director of Risk Management, and Justin Kiersky, Southeast Asia Program Director, will be on point to field any questions or help you with the process.

Thank you for your continued support,

    [post_content] => Hello,

I write this yak at the latest possible time, with only 15 minutes left for me to write this and reach our meeting point. On our last morning in Phnom Penh, we were given some free time to roam the city. While cruising around in a tuk tuk, I was inspired to write one last in course yak. The whole trip, I've struggled to figure out how to live in the moment. I've always admired the term, 'carpe diem', but never seemed to know how to enact it. I spent large portions of my trip trying to feel in the moment. I'd try to smell the atmosphere, feel the trees on our trek, or just simply worry about remembering this fairly unique experience.

So naturally, this morning, with only a few hours left in Cambodia, as I was cruising in a tuk tuk back to our guest house, I took a whiff of the polluted Phnom Penh air, and tried to live in the moment. I tried to broaden my senses, in a last effort to achieve 'carpe diem'.

And then I realized what the problem had been all along. I had spent so much time thinking about 'carpe diem', that I wasn't seizing the day at all. Unfortunately, I hadn't made the best of some of my experiences here, because I was so caught up in making them count. I had been worrying about living in the moment, which made me not live in the moment at all. I should've just lived, and appreciated where I was, not focused on what I wanted to remember from my experiences.

That's when I redirected the tuk tuk to this internet cafe. I was well aware that he was taking me to an extra far away cafe, as well, to make an extra few bucks, but I was okay with it. I just enjoyed the long tuk tuk ride, and the crazy scenery around me. That's what I think Carpe Diem is all about.

See you later,

Harry

    [post_content] => Leah-hi neak-teing-oh-knea! (Goodbye everyone)

It was six weeks ago, when all the instructors came from different part of the world leaved wherever  their homes are, to attend the Dragons's orientation at the Sierra Nevada camp ground. Some of us met their co-instructors for the first time and some be able to work with people or instructors that we work with for years. We all coming together to teach, learn, share, prepare our mid-sets, mentality, materials, strategies, skills and put together all the possible resources to design the best possible summer courses for our summer group!

It was six weeks ago, when we as instructors came together and started looking  into all the detail information and mapped about where should we  should and shouldn't  go and why or why not going to those places. And also looking at all the detail information about each of you and learnt about your names and your interest as individual.

It was nearly six weeks ago, when we heard some of your voices for the first time on the phone when we called to say hi and to check if any of you ready or had any questions before you pack your  stuffs and jump on the plan.

Then July 1st, was the first day that twelve of you, from different part of the USA and elsewhere arrived  to Cambodia, the country where all of you have never been to before (except the instructor), where the culture almost completely different to where you came from, where the people eat almost completely different kind of foods, where the people live almost completely different life style! Where so many things happened in the last century. Most of you don't know what to expected when when you first arrived. Yet, you brought with you with a sense of curiosity, adventurous, open minded and positive attitude which was all we wish and hope for from you.

We moved a lot from place to places, sleeping on the floor, in the hammock, met with many different NGOs workers, discuses with many different topics, learn Buddhism, Cambodian history/culture and eat rices almost three time a day at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We know that sometime it's not easy to deal with being sick and away from your family, the unstoppable sweat from the humidity, the exhaustion of moving around from place to places and  being with the same group of 16 people for nearly 24/7, but somehow you managed to deal with all of those issues. We appreciate your engagement, you patient and trusting us through out the course.

Now, it's July 29th, our course is coming to the end (may be in some way it's just the beginning of the journey) and here we're at the Pouchintong International airport taking the last group pictures together before you all head off and going back to wherever home is :( Honestly,  half of me is looking forward to the end of the course, so then I can go back and spend time with my family and friends who I haven't seen for a while, and the other half of me is really sad saying goodbye to all of you and not knowing when and if  our path going to cross ever again :(

As instructors, we hope that this experience somehow help opening your eyes, help you learnt something new ,  help you gain new perspective and look at the world differently!  And we're hoping that you had a good time and create some long last friendship!

Thanks for being such good friends, students and good ambassadors for your country!  Remember that, Cambodia will always be A SECOND HOME for YOU, if you ever found yourselves  (your friends or families) in this corner of the world again, please swing by and say hello! We'll always welcome you!

Thanks for all the support from admins crews in Boulder!  The i-team for working really hard! And the students for making this experience so much fun and memorable!

Thanks for being YOU and YOU'RE  ALL going to be missed :(

Cambodia Summer Course (Cambokids) 2015,

Som-nang-la'or!!! (Good luck)

Lots of love from Cho, Sarah, Anna and Thavry xxxxxxx

We received word that the group is now on their flight to Hong Kong from Phnom Penh. They will arrive 3 hours delayed at 12:19am and, unfortunately, miss their connecting flight to LAX. Cathay has booked them a hotel room for the night in Hong Kong, which will be helpful as we arrange alternative travel options. Once they arrive in Hong Kong, we will work with Sarah, the instructor traveling with the group, to arrange the best options for each student and coordinate, as needed, with parents to do so.

    [post_content] => July 1st, I was so excited to see my student's face for the first time. I was waiting for them at the Phnom Penh airport with the jasmine flower to welcome them to the Kingdom. The first time I saw their face, I knew they were very tired from traveling across the continent.

Where have a month gone? All I knew until today, the 12 Cambokids and my 3 co-instructors have shared my life's journey. We see each other's face every day for a month. we eat family style dinner, lunch, share bus, laughter, joke, fun time, down time... together.  It has been a great month, traveling, learning, guiding them, learning from them, and sharing with them.

Now we are going to say goodbye in few hours at the same place where I met them?It is hard.!!!

I know, it is going to be hard for them too once they arrive home. It is hard to fit themselves in after a month in a completely new different culture, eat rice almost everyday, bucket showers...!!! I am sure, many people will tell them "You have changed!" even though, they might not believe it! But I am sure they will realized in few months, 1 year, or many more years from now that the trip has been impacted their life. I have it from my own life experienced after living few year in a foreign country.

I am going to miss you all my Dragons family.
Safe flight,

Lot of love.

Thavry!

    [post_content] => Hello all!

Today is our last full day in Kampot, and tomorrow we head back to Phnom Penh to fly home on the 29th. I have so many thoughts and emotions running through me as I think about leaving the place I have called home for the past four weeks. Coming to Cambodia, I did not quite know what to expect, but what I've gotten from this experience has been so much more than I possibly could have anticipated. I've gained a new perspective. I've learned the value of simplicity and generosity, and I've been able to do all of  that while exploring an amazing culture and having tons of fun. At the moment, I feel very lucky. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to come here and to be inspired everyday by the sights and people around me. I am so glad that immersion is such an important core value of Dragons, as I certainly feel this trip would've been immensely different were we to have stayed in 5 star hotels or worn our usual clothes while here. I am grateful to have been pushed and challenged because I feel I have learned so much about myself while here. Finally, I am so thankful for all the people who have made me smile here, the star-filled nights that left me in awe, and the connection I will always feel with this amazing country.

Best,

Flora
