In one month, I've lived three months worth of experiences.

In one month, I've cried more than I cry in a year.

In one month, I've shared the company of fourteen amazing individuals.

In one month, I've done years worth of maturing.

In one month, I've realized how slowly time moves, but how fast it passes us by.

In one month, I've asked two questions for every answer.

In one month, I've gone back and forth between 1000 and 12800 feet in elevation.

In one month, I've seen more waterfalls than I can count.

In one month, I've observed how poorly labels represent actual people.

In one month, I've joined two families and made a school full of friends.

In one month, I've learned skills like applying henna and how to meditate.

I want to thank India for this one month.

I want to thank Germaine, Sarah, and Danny for this one month.

I want to thank Devin, Tay, Syd, Krista, Adela, Jonas, Matt, Sarah, Emily, Julia, and Lia for this one month.

I'd need a decade to learn everything India has to teach me, but in one month, I've seen new perspectives, met wonderful people, found that every life is different, but has similarities, and seen how amazing the world is.

This one month in my 240 months has amazed me.

Now this one month is over. I'm moving to another month, and another place. I hope to remember everything I learned this month. I hope to keep growing and keep experiencing new things.

In one month, I was in India, and I lived.

Goodbye India.

A week and a half ago I didn't know if I was ready to go home, ready to go back to my routine. I found myself asking the same question, "Am I ready to go home now?"

Darjeeling was amazing. We stayed for one week, and a sweet family took me in as their new daughter. I learned to cook, I explored as much as I could, and I can still smell the best tea I had made by my "ama." The last night we spent it together, laughing, eating, and remembering every single moment of this trip.

Now we are in Chennai, and this whole trip seems like it has been going on for forever.

Yesterday night it hit us all; this trip, this escape, this adventure is over and we are finally going home. We stood there, staring at each other with tears and smiles in our faces for what seemed like forever, saying goodbye.

As we sat in a circle, I kept seeing this whole trip over and over again, like a movie. It feels like just yesterday we met at JFK, but it also seems so long ago. Now, a mixture of one thousand emotions is going through me so I don't really know how I feel. Mostly, itfeels like I'm saying goodbye to an old friend, but then again I am saying goodbye.

I think I'm ready to go home now. I think that whatever it was that I was looking for, I found.

And finally to my amazing instructors: Germaine, Sarah, Danny, and of course India, I have one last thing to say, thank you.

Hello all! I am writing to tell you all thatwe have finally started our trip home. We are currently in Chennai and will be flying home tonight (6/26). We had said our final goodbyes last night, and I feel that personally, I took it the hardest. I found it extremely hard to say goodbye to everybody. Hopefully, we will all stay in contact, and that our paths will cross again eventually. Best of luck to everybody!

Love,

Matt

As we set out for our journey almost a month ago, I did not feel like I was in India until we were situated on the overnight train to NJP, surrounded by locals and a language I did not understand.

Now, thirty days later, I do not feel like we will be getting on a plane to the states in less than 12 hours. I have learned so much while I've been here and although I am excited to go home, I feel like I could stay for much, much longer. Our first experience in India, in Kolkata, was overwhelming, intense and exciting. Yet, as we leftKolkata this morningthe rushing cars, crowded streets and rickshaws seemed normal.

We have all had powerful experiences in India, and although it has been intense at times, those intense moments have been the most impactful and changed my life. I am excited to return home and share my experience with family and love ones!

Currently in Chennai for the next ten hours while waiting for our flight out of India. It has been an intense journey in many ways, but beautiful all the same. I have seen and experienced so many amazing things and I am incredibly lucky for that. Our last night in Kolkata was really nice, we had a goodbye ceremony. Our group is now down two and it's crazy because it's all happening so fast. This has been the longest and the shortest month of my life. When I look back on everything we have done, I can't even believe it. I'm sad to leave yet ready to go...and ready to explore the rest of the world.

I'd like to thank everyone involved with this trip: the students who decided to take on this course, the teachers who have shared so much with us, and the parents who have supported us. I'd like to thank you all for your part in this past month's journey, and I look forward to sharing my experiences and my evolved self with everyone at home.

Thanks,

Sarah

[post_content] => So this will be my last Yak Yak post of the summer. I'm currently sitting in an Internet Cafe in Chennai, our final destination. This morning we woke up at 6, leaving Jonas behind at the YWCA in Kolkata, 14, then said our final goodbyes to Danny at the airport in Kolkata, now 13. I can't believe one month has passed. It seems like yesterday we all met at JFK, having so many emotions about what this journey would be like. And now we're coming home?! Where did time fly? Our last week in Darjeeling was incredible. Some of the people I met, I will never forget. Especially my host family. Saying goodbye to them was the hardest part. It's just so crazy to me that after 4 weeks of non-stop travels and adventures are coming to an end. I'm so glad to have had this experience. I'm so grateful to have met "Team Sikkim" and was introduced to such a facinating culture, so differnt from my own. I wanted to say a quick thank you to Germaine, Sarah, and Danny. I don't think we could have asked for better leaders. All of your intelligence and guidence has been crucial on this trip, thank you. And to Team Sikkim, I could not have chosen anyone else to have spent 4 weeks with. I'm so glad to have met you guys and learn all you guys have to offer. Keep in touch!! Sadly as we head back home on our next flight at 1:00am tonight, Sarah is staying back in Chennai, now 12. Once we land in NY, we're all going our separate ways...I don't think I can deal with anymore sad goodbyes. Thank you all for a wonderful summer that I will never forget.

Sikkim andWest Bengal have been an amazing adventure. My host famalies will forever be in my heart and the idea of never eating rice again is sounding better and better.Kolkata and Chennai have been a culture shock in itself due to the animal sacrifice we witnessed at the Kolkata Hindu Temple.

India hasallowed me to fully appreciate everything that I take for granted. Living in a different cultureshowed me subtle differences and similarities thatfurther build upon my gratitude for my own lifestyle, Buddhist philosophies, and the Nepali language and culture.

After spending 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 30 days together, you build life-long friendships. I plan on staying in touch with many people through the program.

All in all, the Sikkim: Spiritual Traditions of Northeast India program has durastically changed my worldly points of view and appreciation for everyone and everything in my life.

Well,

We're done. I'm still in shock that the month flew by so fast. I've never felt so bittersweet in my life. On the one hand, I have never been so excited to get back to my parents, warm showers, and comfort food. On the other hand, I have gotten so incredibly close with the wonderful people in our group and leaving them and my family in Darjeeling is impossibly hard. I look forward to continuing these relationships with all of the lovely people I have met on this trip for the rest of my life. Starting with a roadtrip to Montreal with Syd!

I can never express in words my gratitude for everything this trip has given me.

One day I will return to my Himalayan family.

Love you all Team Sikkim.
