[post_content] => We are back from our trek! I am so happy with how well it went. We arrived at Lake Karakul and helped the local Krygyz nomads set up a yurt for us. The next day we trekked to "204" a local village several miles away. Here several of the students came down with mild cases of altitude sickness- we were at 3400 meters at the time! It was nothing serious, but we called it an early night and the next day adjusted our plans to compensate. We hiked as a group for another hour or so, and then the students who wanted continued on up towards the glacier and the remaining students spent time in the local village relaxing and chatting with the local families hosting us. Yesterday we went to Tashkorgan an amazing town and had the best dinner with a really hospitable Tajik family. The students especially enjoyed playing games with the little girl in the family. Tommorow we will spend the day exploring Kashgar, going to the mosque and to the outdoor market!

[post_content] => Well, there's not enough time to post a yak to it's full capacity, but I'll give it a try. China's people and cultures have been fantastic thus far. The group started out in Beijing and traveled to Kashgar. Even though we're still in the same country by name, the experiences in both cities have been as different as the poles on this planet. Our group has had the opportunity to trek some amazing landscapes (even though the altitude made us all a little sick) and sample cultures in the cities as well. I'm excited to see what China still has to offer.

To who it may concern,

I am back in Kashgar after our five day trek around the Xinjiang province. We started at Karakul Lake and eventually made our way to the village of Jambalok (sic?) a mere 17 kilometers from the Tajikistan border. Almost the entire group at one time experienced altitude sickness including myself, but it was still a great experience since the landscape was so beautiful. In a few days we will hop on an epic 28 hour train ride to Turpan, so I will enjoy my last few days in Kashgar.

[post_content] => We are taking off tommorow morning for a 5 day experience in the mountains! We are all packed and ready to go after a day exploring Kashgars streets and doing some shopping in preperation for our trek. The students are enjoying learning Uyghur and Chinese languages, and are starting to bond as a group. We will drive up to Karakul lake tommorow and spend the night at a nearby Krygz village. The next day we will trek up to a higher village, and the following day spend 4th of July in a Uyghur village. On July 6 we will head to the remote Tajik town of Tashkorgan on the Karakorum highway and return to Kashgar on July 7. So we will be out of email communication until then, but will post yaks when we return! Were off for an amazing trek!

At the beggining of this enormus palace many of the people asked me and others to take pictures with there kids and friends because i was soo tall and a white man! walking through this massive piece of art was an amazing experience. sworms of people were at every corner inside the palace and being tall helped climbing over people and taking the best picture. I filled my camera with tons of amazing pictures.

We have just come back from the Forbiden city and it was amazing. It seemed that the beautiful buildings would never end. The natives here find us very amusing. While out side the Forbiden City instead of people taking pictures of the ancient architect we were the objects of their fascination; they were taking pictures of us. It has been raining all day but that has not stoped us from having fun or eating alot of delicous chinese food! We are flying out to Kashgar tonight and we are all adjusting to the time diference well. More funto come :)

We had our first full day as a group, and today was an excellent adventure and test to our flexibility. We already have a slight change in plans: our connecting flight from Hong Kong to Beijing got delayed, and we missed our connection to Kashgar. Fortunately, we found ourselves a place to stay for the night and will have a full day in Beijing before we make our way towards Kashgar on our new flight. All the students kept a great attitude through the waiting and the changes.
