Greetings amigos!

Andy, Maro and I (Helen) have been enjoying reading your introductions!! We are so excited to meet you all in just over a week in Miami. Your enthusiasm for our experience together this summer is tangible.

We are currently camping on the beautiful eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California with the rest of the Dragons community. Recent rains have dropped the snow line to just a few thousand feet above us, and the White Mountains to our east have an inspiring snow cap--reminiscent of the Andes peaks we are about to be awed by.

Compliments of 21st century technology and Dragons' ingenuity, I am writing to you all from our campsite. Wireless internet in the wilderness. Wow. My mind is a little blown. But, we can't expect that in Bolivia, folks!!

Regarding Arjun's question: we recommend that you have an ATM card with access to US funds for our trip to Bolivia. MAKE SURE that it has either the MasterCard or Visa emblem on the card. There are many ATMs in Bolivia that will not accept anything else. American Express is nearly useless in Bolivia, so steer clear of that for this trip. ATMs are readily available in La Paz, but they do not exist in thesmaller towns and villages that we will be spending much of our time in.MAKE SURE that you know the PIN NUMBER for your ATM card. PLEASE, DO NOT write it down anywhere near yourATM card, for security reasons. You will need to keep your PIN secret. Try to choose a number that means something to you, so you can remember it. We recommend that you definitely bring some money in cash as well (US Dollars are fine, as we can easily exchange them for bolivianos once we get to Bolivia). You will be pretty hard pressed to find a place in the States that even exchanges Bolivian currency, but if you do,know that the rate will probably be better once we are in country.

Also on the topic of money, please make sure that you have a good system for disbursing your cash throughout your belongings. Nothing too chaotic, but a couple of different secure places that you willbe able to access easily. as

FYI: The boliviano is hovering right around 7 to the US Dollar, in case you were interested!

I hope this helps you all out as you make final preparations for your arrival in Miami!

We will be checking the yak board as regularly as possible over the coming days, so please feel free to continue posting questions!

Keep yaking! Happy packing!

Que les vaya muy bien!

Helen (and Maro and Andy)

hello everyone,

My name is Justin, I'm seventeen, grew up and texas my whole life and currently live in Austin Texas and I have a lazy eye. I like to skateboard, play guitar, play soccer, and learn. I enjoy myself sooo much when I am outside and am mostexcited about the week long trekkingadventures we will be experiencingand hope you are to.I cannot begin to explain my feelings about the trip, having seldom traveled outside of the country, I have a little uncertainty. For the past year or so I have felt my heart and soul being called to South America probably in part because my dad grew up in very remote conditions in Brazil, and I still can't fully comprehend I will be spending six weeks in the most remote country in Sudo America. It's gonna be awesome!

ps. we are all going to become real good friends!!! ;)

Hola mis jovenes amigos!

Today is an important day for us, finally after a few weeks, Helen, Andy and myself will be together getting ready for an amazing adventure in Bolivia, a lot of wilderness exploration, hikes, home stays, and even more.

We have 10 days, enough time to be ready to go, final shopping, final questions, vaccines and meds supplies. But just remember the most important think that you need to bring to Bolivia is yourselves, with open minds, open hearts and sense of humor to enjoy every sunset together for the next 6 weeks.

Some of you have already introduced yourself in the yac yac, but I would love to hear from those who didn’t do it yet, so please do the honors and introduce yourself to the team. So far we are 13 people (10 students and 3 instructores). All together traveling on the land of Pachamama (mother earth)

I hope you are doing very good,

love

Greetings, travelers!

Just a quick note to let you all know that the three of us are headed to California tomorrow to begin our staff orientation. We have been able to connect with most of you over the phone in the last couple of weeks, and we just wanted to let you know how excited we are to meet you all in person! It seems like we have a very solid group of intrepid, curious, motivated travelers.

We will be a little hard to reach while we are in orientation, but we will come back to civilization for a couple of days just before we meet you in Miami. You can feel free to call or email us then if you have any last minute questions!

Good luck finishing up your school years (if you haven't already!) and getting organized for our adventure this summer!

Suerte, y que les vaya muy bien!

Hasta pronto, amigos.

Hey everyone!

I just found out this morning that I'd been accepted to this program! I'm very excited and giddy so this post may or may not be filled with annoying exclamation marks and smiley faces, sorry in advance:)

My name is Tolulope (Tolu for short) and I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I may also be among the youngest of you guys-I'm 15 like Adam. Also like Adam, I go to a private school in Manhattan(Dalton). I've taken Spanish in school for a few years, but I haven't really gotten much of a chance to speak it in a real context. I can't wait to learn more and meet all of you guys!

P.S.:(Real talk though, I'm a bit nervous, I've never been hiking.)

Hi Guys!

I figured I should introduce myself before we start on this trip, so...here it goes!
I'm 16 years old and was born and raised in Southern California, but I go to boarding school in New Jesery so I've spent most of the last three years on the east coast. I've been studying spanish for three years and last year I did a homestay program for a month in Cadiz, Spain which was an amazing experience. My Spanish isn't amazing, but I hope to get better at it during the six weeks in Bolivia. Anyways, I can't wait to meet everyone soon!

Hello everyone,

I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself. My name is Adam and I'm 15 years old, I'll probably be the youngest on the trip. I'm from NYC as well and go to Collegiate, a private school there. I've been taking Spanish for a few years, so I know a little, but I'm really excited to learn some more and become a better Spanish speaker. I have never done a dragons trip, but I'm really excited to go to Boliva and meet all of you guys!

from,

Adam
