I now stand in the same place I was when I posted my very first post in Singapore airport. I feel so different from how I did at the beginning of the trip. I am more confident, I make more of my own experiences, and, above all else, I have realized there is always more to know. Right now I am feeling reluctant. Even as I would gladly remain in Cambodia for a long time, I am at the same time aware of the fact that I would also like to be home and see my family and friends. I am sad to leave the friends that I have grown so close to in 6 weeks of continuous travel. I will miss you all!

We ended lastnight with a visit to the club Heart of Darkness (named after Joseph Conrad's famous book) to continue our study of sex trafficking and prostitution. It was a fantastic way to view the scale of work. We started at a village (the beginning) and then we visited a factory. This is the first step in most girls workplaces. We then saw the brothels on a drive by with our local friend Thy Prum. He works for an NGO called KTO (which combats sex-trafficking) and was very knowledgable about sex-trafficking. Then we visited Spark, which is another club a little below HoD. But seeing HoD was unreal. There was such blatant prostitution that it was unnerving and at the same time it gave us a first hand view at how prominent it is.

A Powerful Ending

We are currently in the Singapore airport. After an incredible six weeks, we said our goodbyes to Jon and are heading home. Our last few days in Phnom Penh were filled with emotion. We visited migrant factory workers from the provinces. The women earn less than 2$ a day and live as many as 30 to a single room.

We then spent a night touring areas where many young Khmer and vietnamese women are involved in sex trafficking. The activity was part of a 6 week long study of gender issues and human trafficking. It was powerful and incredible that such a young group of students were able to be so mature in the face of difficult issues.

We finished our program last evening with a tour of a local dance club popular with tourists and Khmer's alike. Students were able to witness first hand the social problems facing cambodia and were able to dance out a bit of nervous energy about returning home as well.

Our students are returning home mature, young adults. They have changed and grown profoundly and will need support from everyone as they begin to process the incredibly challenging and rewarding experience of the past 6 weeks.

The leaders wish to thank all of the parents, friends and supporters of our students for allowing them the opportunity to experience and grow.

We wish you all the best.

Allana, Jon and Josh

Today we took our last tuk tuk ride through the city of Phnom Penh. I could not help but compare it to our ride into the city on the same road our first time we came to Phnom Penh. It's hard to believe how much we have learned and experienced since that first tuk tuk ride into the city. And then, as I was stepping onto the plane leaving Cambdodia I was filled with a mixture of emotions. I am going to miss so many things about Cambodia, the people, the markets, the transportation, the food and more, but with the vast knowledge I acquired throughout the trip I feel like I could easily come back to Cambodia in the future, so I do not worry about missing Cambodia too much. I do worry about missing our group though, and the experiences we had together. It's difficult to believe that I will never be in this experience in Cambodia again. Everything about the trip has been amazing. I do not like things to be so final, but I feel satisfied because of the relationships I have created and the knowledge that I have acquired.

We are in the Singapore airport. We just got in from Phnom Penh and have a couple hours until we leave for LA. Everyone is mellow. It is hard to fathom that we have left. I did a yak yak in this same computer station 6 weeks ago. So much has changed. There is a lot I want to carry with me when I go home. I want to carry the grang jet mentality or at least attempt to keep an increased awareness of it. We sat down outside the computer station and five minutes after sitting down, Josh pointed out that we had all huddled into a small corner, were speaking quietly, and were sitting with our legs crossed or legs tucked away. We are used to being in Cambodia. We have all become so comfortable in that environment. It will be strange to see the large spaces and the cleanliness in America. I am sad to have left but am so happy to have spent these past 6 weeks in Cambodia with 11 incredible people. This trip has affected my mentality and hopes more than I ever would have imagined. I will carry that with me for a long time.

Dear someone,

I am writing this letter after having experienced one of the greatest journeys in my life. I hope that this advice can help you one day or give you insight into the future. Life is constantly putting choices and decisions before you, testing you, seeing what you're made of. The truth of the matter is those tests and trials are ones that you make, the situations you put yourself in. Take advantage of it. If you are confronted with something new, something out of your compfort zone realize what is important. Don't be afraid to make mistakes because as cliche as it sounds you will learn from them. You will begin to enjoy those miscommunications, and awkward situations and understand that things really arn't awkward at all. Life is made up of laguages but what you must learn is that language is much bigger than words and phonetics. It's all around you, language is a form of communication, it's spoken, it's gestures it's the way you carry yourself, the way you realate to everything around you. It gets hard but be tough and have fun. Good luck...

Oh man.

The group, that's what we are and that is what we will always be. It's so hard to comprehend that I am going to leave this place, the experiences, the inside jokes, arguments, the storming, the fun, the laughter. Cambodia is a place I will never forget. The homestay was amazing I miss them so much. My siter Mantha was so cool and we got along so well, and my drum teacher in the village was absolutely hilarious. Home is where the heart and Cambodia is where my heart lies. It's so weird to be boarding a plane and realizing that I have to go back and get into the flow of school and America in general. But I'm not worried I have 11 amazing people that I have shared an unbeleivable experience with.

cheers to the 1st Cambodian dragons group...it was grand.

so i am in the singapore airport right now still trying to come to grips with the fact that i am no longer in cambodia with the wtbd group... for me it seems like its almost a dream..and i should be waking up momentarily to the drums at the WAT we stayed at, or my homestay sister cleaning the floor, or even the simple alarm clock in the Tat Guesthouse.

This trip has been honestly the most amazing experience ever. (Big Jon that was for you... i hope you read it.) I am so sad to be leaving Cambodia. That country is so damn beautiful! What i find even harder to come to grips with is that i have to leave all of these amazing people in my group in just less than 24 hours. we have spent so much time together over the last 6 weeks and have created some pretty amazing bonds... its scary to think that we wont be together for breakfast tomorrow..or even cramming 6 girls into one bedroom at the Tat.

Anyways, the internet time is running out and I dont even know how to really describe how i am feeling right now. I am completely torn between two things and cannot find the words to describe it in a way that someone else could understand. so let me think more about it and i will make another yak yak post asap. from here i am off to my summer cabin in canada without electricity..so if i dont get to a computer in LA, i will be posting yak yaks asap when i get home in september.

love to all. peace out cambodia. its been a great six weeks full of memories.

M.E.E.K.A.S.

"all are going with milk...." - - - it makes sense.

peace and love.

Emma

oh and ps. this is super random but this is the exact same computer i made my first yak yak post on in singapore..and its my last yak yak post in singapore..thats crazyyness! [just a little something i was thinking about]

mnmmkkkk i am done for nowww!

We are now in the Singapore airport already having said goodbye to Jon this morning. It was a strange send off in Cambodia - we met one of our guides in the airport to say goodbye, but it did not feel like goodbye. Even now, writing this yakyak in the singapore airport, it feels like we will be back in Cambodia tomorrow walking through the market, eating at noodle stands, and staring in awe at the vans piled with 15 people on top. It is difficult to imagine that tomorrow I will be home in my own bed as I still don't feel ready to say goodbye to this trip and its memories, the friends I have made, and summer. I look forward to returning home and being able to see how much I have changed and hopefully grown.

It's my last day in Cambodia. Dear Lord, who would have ever thought 6 weeks would go so fast. I also very much wish i wasn't wasting my time on the internet right now.... but you know me, i have to feed the yak yak addiction. anyway... the groups pretty.... mellow. We don't want to leave at all. We're all so close that it's hard to imagine this is the end. The girls all squeeze into one room instead having to be seperated. OOh this is just far too depressing.

I ...... OO i don't know anymore. This trip has changed everyone i think, especially myself. I'm a lot quieter and more focused. hopefully i'll be the same when i get back.. Its something I really want to work on.

So i'll be seeing family nd friends soon! scary thoughtttt

anyway I'm gonna go eat my last Khmai lunch..and have my little "hHHHOLy crap we're leavinggggg" spaz attack. Coffee sounds good too. Although it's ever not sounded good soo...

Faretheeee well all
