In a matter of hours my world was flipped upsidedown. I feel like Alice in Wonderland, falling through a Rabbit Hole, and landing in a strange land that's not my own. But Instead of everything being quirky, chaotic, and new, in this wonderland, it's sterilized and strangley familar.

I am in the airport watching parents shepard their children on leashes (a truely strange phenomenon when not hours ago the children ran naked, along congested highways narrowly being missed by cars, rickshaws, bicycles, holy cows, and mangy dogs). Suddenly I am able to sit down and not be watched by thousands of curious eyes, I am able to disappear into a crowd again. No one has asked me for ruppes for their starving child in arm, offered me a rickshaw, or invited me into their goods shop to have a look around. I am surprised to feel lonely for these things that once frustrated me so much. I have no human contact, everyone minds their own bussiness here, even as I unsuccessfully try to swallow back my tears.

This morning I woke up up in my own bed, across the world. It's the first time in almost four months that I have woken up alone. My Indian host family are not sharing a bed with me, and the other dragons who have become my family are not close by. I don't know what to do without them honestly. It all happened so fast and now I am sitting here feeling like I should be calling up my fellow dragons asking them what they want to do today. Do they want to get chai, sit on the ghats before Hindi lessons like I so desperatly do?

I miss India and her beautiful chaos, but more over I miss the company of my twelve dragons brothers and sisters that I have yet to spend twenty four hours without.

So my heart is sent out to you friends, so that where ever you are at the moment, you know that there is someone who misses you and misses the country that we all grew in together.

I want to thank you all for the memories you have given me and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

I love you all.

Namaste friends and family;

The end is finally upon us. The mood is surreal as we race around to complete last minute present shopping, trying to soak up as much of the hazy Delhi atmosphere as possible.

We will have a closing ceremony and group dinner tonight at the home of a local colleague, and then leave for the airport at 8:15pm in order for our students to arrive three hours early at the international terminal.

It is a bittersweet and triumphant moment, punctuated with moments of great sadness and elation at the thought of being homeward bound.

It has been an amazing semester - even more amazing to think how quickly it has sped past us. As an instructor team, it has been a great honor to facilitate this program for our twelve extraordinary students, and to watch all that they have accomplished in their time here.

We are so proud of each of them, as all of you should be; and it is with heavy hearts that we begin the process of saying our goodbyes.

Namaste to all !

Tashi Delek to our friends and family;

Last night, the instructor team sat round the table writing up the schedule for our last five days in india together. Five days! It amazes me to think how quickly this semester program had flown by ...

We arrived yesterday morning at Dolma Ling Nunnery, via the night train from Haridwar. The beautiful environs of Dolma Ling, nestled in the Kangra Valley, will be our home for the next two nights as we explore the Tibetan settlements of McLeod Ganj and begin our transference process, preparing our students for the re-entry shock of their return home.

Here in Dharamsala, we are in the heart of the tibetan exile community - and there is no shortage of opportunities to engage with the community. Yesterday we visited the Norbulingka Institute for Tibetan Arts - wandering the workcarving and painting workshops and studios; the Avalokitesvara temple; the beautifully landscaped gardens. This morning we drove together to the Parliament building of the Tibetan Government-In-Exile, and had a lecture on the structure and history of the new democratic system of governance.

Tonight - our students are preparing dinner for the group in our guesthouse kitchen at Dolma Ling! We fall asleep to the sounds of wind in the bamboo trees and nuns chanting their prayers. It is a peaceful close to the program.

We will arrive in Delhi on Sunday morning, have a final trip to Fab India and a few more transference exercises, a farewell party - and then our goodbyes coming too quickly on Monday evening.

More soon from the students!

Jackie

When my dad asked me that question - if we were back in civilization - I wasn't quite sure how to answer.

We are still in the mountains in the town of Rishikesh, some of you parents might be familiar with the name as the birthplace of the Beatles "enlightened" era.

More importantly, Rishikesh is the beginning of the Ganges River. As you all know we have spent most of our semester living our lives along the Ganges in Varanasi. The Ganga (as it is called in India) is the mother of life and death to Indian Hindus. In Varanasi, we witnessed many of its death rituals as well as witnessed the death of the Ganga itself being caused by pollution and waste dumpage. Here in Rishikesh it is very much alive. During our trek we passed through countless villages that are receiving life in the form of irrigation and drinking water from the fabulous Himalayas that feed into the Ganga. Rishikesh is also alive with a bustling tourist community that come to vacation and swim in these pristine headwaters of the Ganga-as well as search for their own enlightenment.

Nonetheless, it's difficult to answer my dad's question if we are back in civilization or not, because compared to our last 10 days climbing up and sliding down the peaks and valleys of the Himalayas, sleeping in tents in the pouring rain, smelling like a football team and looking dirtier than a mining team, anything else is civilized!

Today, the students are all recovering from our 12 hour bus ride back into "civilization" and preparing for our all night journey to Dharamsala, a more northern region of the Himalayas and home of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In Dharamsala, we will begin to wrap up our semester before we all say goodbye in Delhi less than a week from now!

You'll be hearing from the students when they have relaxed, recovered and digested their rugged travel experience!

Stay tuned!

Today I rode the metro. Clean, fresh, sleek, filled with young men in business attire. A cool female voice announced the stops first in Hindi and then again in English. The cool female voice also reminded us to watch the gap and mind the closing doors. Eating, drinking, and smoking is prohibited in the Delhi Metro.

Today I ate in a coffee shop. Chic, funky, happening, filled with young couples in designer blue jeans. Hip jazz and lounge music played on the stero system. The music reminded us to chill out with a latte. Eating cheesecake, drinking Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, and ordering french sadwhiches is encouraged at Mocha.

Today I visited India Gate at night fall. Illuminated, starlight, sparkling, filled with families and couples out for a night time stroll. Kwality Wall's ice cream was sold on the corners, light sticks were thrown into the air, row boats traversed the pond. The shouts of children and murmered conversations of couples reminded us to smile and enjoy the cool air. Viewing the light-up gate, enjoying the anonomity of the crowd, and loving the green landscape is experienced at India Gate.

Today I enjoyed the florists, gelato shops, designer saree botiques, and green space of Modern Delhi. On the road home I saw hundreds of emaciated men sleeping alongside the road. Crossing the road I was approached by begging children and women and men, all dirty and desperate and hungry and far removed from M-block Market or Defense Colony. Money does not buy you happiness, but money can buy temporary ignorance and ignorance is bliss. India does not support ignorance for long. Wake up, look around, wonder at it all, and ask yourself why and how.

Dear friends and family,

The Visions of India team has arrived in Delhi after a long journey from Banaras. While arduous, they did have the opportunity to stop andexperience the marbled Taj Mahal. Finding a quiet corner,it inspires reflection and contemplation, and is truly a magnificent creation.

Now in Dehli, their days are chock full before heading North into the Himalayas for the final semester component. Needless to say, it's more than a cherry on top!

Namaste!

Our final day in Banaras ...

Last night we wrapped up this part of our journey together with the rest of our ISP presentations, and a banquet for all our friends and family to celebrate our time together. There is a mixture of tenderness and anticipation in the air - a sadness to say goodbye to this magical city and an exhilaration to get on the road.

Tonight we leave Banaras by nighttrain, and awake tomorrow morning in Agra - home of the Taj Mahal. We will spend the day taking in the sights, and arrive in Delhi later that night. We will spend Tuesday and Wednesday charging around mad Delhi (can anyone say Fab India?) before heading off north to Uttarakhand to begin our ten day trek.

Our students will be in phone and email contact until Wednesday evening, but we will be out of touch after that until 5 May. Our instructor team will trek with emergency phones, and we will regularly contact our Boulder office with updates.

More, much more, soon ...

With warm greetings,
