[post_content] => This morning we left the tranquility of Laguna de Apoyo where we spent our transference week. Each morning began with fresh food and meditation, and our days were filled with swimming, sharing conversation, ISPs, ideas and laughs with one another. Our final nights we went to sleep under a full moon - graced with ceremony, incense, and good music.

But now we are in Managua, unwillingly counting down the hours before the students will head to the airport, ending our time together, but preparing to return home to you. Just a few hours ago, our students lead a ceremony to commemorate our time together, and as instructors, we felt an incredible pride and also love for them seeing what they had created. We sang, hands intertwined, weaving around a fire of candles (in true Marwood style, thanks to Dania;)) and set up in flames our dreams, aspirations and things we also wanted to let go of. We appreciated each other and shared music, thoughts, pictures, and as always, laughs:)

We should be checking in around 5am, and as soon as our students - your amazing children and friends! - are off, we'll post a yak here. Thank you for sharing your sons and daughters with us over the past three months - it seems surreal to be sending them off, and as happy as we are to have them be back in your arms again, los extrañaremos inmensamente!

[post_content] => It's hard to believe that in less than 48 hours this trip will only be memories. Words can't describe how excited I am to be home, but they also can't describe the experiences I've had and the wonderful people I have met. It's strange to think that these people I've laughed with, shared stories with, shared fart-wridden tents with for the last 3 months will leave my everyday life almost as quickly as they entered it. The truth is, I'm going to miss theses people, but I know it won't be a final goodbye. The relationships that have formed in the last 3 months are relationships that will last a lifetime. There's already plans in the works to see these weirdos again. That goes to show you what kind of relationship we've created.

I know this trip will be an experience I will share with people for the rest of my life.

Thanks to my parents for blessing me with this opportunity: I am forever grateful. Thanks to all of my instructors for staying strong and energized through 3 months with twelve 18 year olds: respect. Thanks to all of the families who opened the doors of their homes, you have taught me many things. Thanks to the other 11 Dragones who have really made this trip unforgettable.

Peace.

[post_content] => Arguably one of the most important parts of any Dragons program is the Independent Study Project or more affectionately known as the ISP. The concept behind ISPs is that students find something before or while on course that they are passionate about and then use local contacts/resources to learn as much as they can about said topic. ISPs represent something far more than a simple book report or school project. They're about taking ownership of your own learning. They're about diving deep into the places you'll visit in your life. Not just seeing places like Guatemala, El Salvador or Nicaragua from the surface but truly connecting with the culture and history as a traveller, not a tourist.

Here's a list of what we focused on for our ISPs.

Dania: First hand interviews of the civil war in Nicaragua

Tali: Immigration

Rachael: Traditional Nicaraguan dance

Miles: Traditional vs modern music in Central America

Brian: Salsas of Central America

Carson: How to travel

Lucas: Mayan Gods

Emily: Bachata dance

Rose: Poetry of Central America

Bridget: Cookbook of local recipes

Mac: The history of Salsa music

Sherise: Herbs of Central America
