Greetings from Delhi!

We would like to inform the family and loved ones of Archer girls that the group has now left for the Delhi International Airport. We had a fabulous final day here in Delhi visiting local fair trade market, drinking chai, reflecting on our last 11 days, shopping and dancing/chanting at a Hindu Temple.

Thank you for trusting us in leading these inquisitive, fun and beautiful young girls. It has been a joy being part of their India experience.

They will be home soon and they are all in good health and spirit.

Namaste!

[post_content] => I could not have been more pleseantly surprised with my experience at the ashram. When we arrived I really didn't know what an ashram was but after being there for 2 days I learned so much. I loved learning to meditate as well as the history of the ashram and the different swamis. The people there were so passionate about their studies, and I loved hearing from them. I feel much more calm after my experience and plan on using the meditation I learned in my everday life now. I hope that I will have the oppurtunity to return soon.

[post_content] => My experience at the ashram was everything I could have hoped for and more. Though at first I was a little unsure of what to expect, by the end of our short stay there I was already wishing I could visit again soon. Being in such a serene environment allowed me to truly reflect and take a much needed break from the stress of senior year. I am so fortunate to have met such interesting people at the ashram who are so passionate about what they study and who are so confident in their spirituality. I really hope I am able to apply the tools I learned at the ashram in my daily life once I return back home.

In India I feel like every moment is special. From sitting in an internet cafe and listening to baliwood music to the smell all around us to sleeping on a spare tire in the back of a truck to doing hena with your new Indian sister. Every moment is magnefied and I think will be burned into my mind forever. The colors and the sounds make you feel happy and sad at the same time. I am so happy to have gotten this experience because every single person I have met have been amazing. The boy in the internet cafe playing Indian music with us, the flower lady on the street, the motorcycle guy with sunglasses who followed us for a while, to my sister. Every single one of them have been fantastic. I love the generosity here like the guy who offered for me to sit on the one millimeter of space next to him because he noticed I was very uncomfortable standing with a heavy backpack on a squished train for 45 min. Its amazing andI can't wait to come back!!!!!

This is a bitter sweet ending, I am so happy to be going home, but so sad to leave a place that is so amazing. I will miss my sister Neetu the most and the P.P.E.S. girls. There compassion and tenacious attitudes shine through the stereotypes made in America. I will miss the urgency to take my shoes off before entering a classroom and temple, and the my new excitment for "tea time". I don't want to leave my second family!

Sam Singh is by far one of the most inspirational people I know. He can talk about anything and make it interesting. His joys and aspirations are clearly shown through his actions. I will never forget him.

We write to you from the secluded haven that is Swarmi Rama Sadaka Grama Ashram, on the banks of the sacred River Ganges, just outside of the ancient pilgrimage site of Rishikesh.

We have spent just over 24 hours here, but already we feel that our energy has shifted. This is the part of the trip where we have the opportunity to take some time to sit with ourselves, to look inward, and be still.

Our days start early, with chanting and yoga. Much of the day is spent in quiet contemplation, practicing breathing techniques or learning how to sit or lie in poses that are good for the body. We are extremely fortunate that the high swami (spiritual teacher) of the ashram, Swarmi Veda Bharathi, is in residence at the moment. This evening we all attended an hour-long silent meditation with the swarmi, and were blessed that he made a special mention of us at the end of the session!

Even in the short time we have been here we have all noticed ourselves slow down and become calmer. It is a real contrast to the craziness of Delhi and the upbeat energy of PPES, and indeed our busy lives at school and work. We hope to be able to take some of this practice with us when we go back home.

Many of the chants here end with the phrase: ‘Om Shanti Shanti Shanti’. This is a perfect way to sum up our time here in the ashram, as it translates as ‘Om, peace, peace, peace’.

This is the part of the […]

Dear Friends and Families of the Archer group,

I am writing to let you all know that after 5 days at PPES, the students bid farewell to their new friends, and caught a VERY early morning train to Rishikesh, one of India's most sacred cities.

They arrived midday and are now checked in to Swami Veda's peaceful ashram for the next few days. Renowned as a center for the study of yoga and eastern philosophy, this a great place for the group to slow down and really process the many things they have witnessed and learned about in the past week. For the next few days, they will be studying Indian philosphy, meditation, and doing some outings in this magical city which sits on the banks of the most sacred river in India - the Ganges.

The internet connection in the rural setting of PPES was very poor, so they were unable to post as many notes as they would have liked. We should have more reliable connections in Rishikesh, and look forward to hearing from them directly, soon.

For now, rest assured they have arrived and are happily settling in to this next chapter.

Best regards,

Jamie Woodall

[post_content] => Yesterday when sitting with our Indian "Sisters" painting nails and making friendship bracelets, my sister had to go practice her dancing for the annual celebration for the school. After she left many girls came up and wanted to have their nails painted with the sparkly nail polish that I brought. After a while all I saw were hands and nails not even the faces. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't be spending the time with my sister like all the other girls in my group were. When she came back and came running to sit in front of me with a giant smile on her face, I was instantly happy. She sat down in front of me and indicated that she wanted me to paint her nails too. After I painted her nails, she braided my hair, and I showed her how to take pictures on my camera, I asked her if she wanted to have the nail polish. Her entire face lit up and she said with a breathless voice "Really?!?"... I realized then how close and connected you could get with someone even without knowing the same language because at that moment all I wanted was to give her that nail polish if that was going to make her happy. Because I don't need that nail polish but the fact that it made her so amazed that she was going to be able to keep it and call it hers really made my heart melt because making her happy made me happy. I don't think I have ever experienced that with someone who I have only basically just met. This connection that I feel with her is something lasting and special and I hope it lasts forever.
